Congratulation - Florida Vision - 6th Grade USSSA Girls State Champions

Pictured is our Club Team - Florida Vision Girls after an outstanding weekend in Tampa where they won USSSA State Championship. All of us in the Winning Ways family are proud of the Vision Girls...way to go ladies! The Vision is headed to New Orleans for the AAU National Championship! Good Luck Ladies!

 

Fall Coaches Clinic - September 27th

Join us at our fall coaches clinic on Saturday September 27th at the University of Tampa. There will be a number of college head coaches slated to speak, as well as some very successful high school head coaches from around the state of Florida. We will also have a strength and conditioning coach speaking at the event. This will be an all day event, including lunch. Save the date and stay tuned for additional information.

Congratulations Naples Storm 7th Grade Winning Ways Club Team - The Naples Storm pictured to the right finished 2nd in the High Hoops Tournament on Mother's Day, and a 2nd Place Finish in the Winning Ways Think Pink AAU Tournament in March! Great job ladies.....we are very proud of your efforts this spring. The Storm are headed to the 12u AAU D2 National Tournament. Good Luck Ladies.

Winning Ways Point Guard College Camp

• Do you want to become a more effective player?
• Do you want to become a real student of the game?
• Do you want to become a leader on the floor?
  If you answered yes, then Point Guard College camp for you?

• This camp is for advanced -serious basketball players - Girls and Boys
• Rising 8th Graders thru Rising 12thGraders
• Camp Limit - 30 players
• Great for Guards and all Perimeter Players
• Each Player will receive a Point Guard College Play Book that they will utilize throughout the week
• Classroom "Head" sessions everyday. We first start in the classroom teaching concepts, then follow-up with on court skill sessions.
• Daily video analysis of game situations. Players will see examples of the techniques we will teach by watching actual college game footage.
• We teach - explosion moves - change of speed - change of direction - have to finish your drives - court vision - the transition game.
• Advanced Passing techniques
• Leadership Skill development is at the core of all sessions.

Held at Estero High School

Limited Camp Size - open to rising 8th graders and up - male and female

College coaches attending as guest speakers

Camp Hours - 9:00am to 4:30pm, Friday July 17- Monday July 20

Cost $179 for the week if paid by June 30th

Girls Varsity High School and Junior Varsity Pickup Basketball

The program includes 45 minutes of on court training , then an hour and a half of pickup basketball. We will run 3 on 3, 4 on 4, and 5 on 5 games. Each week the group is limited to 30 players. The training will include SAQ (speed, agility and quickness), ball handling, shooting and defense. The cost for each weekly session is $15.00 and there is no long term commitment. Middle School and High School Off-Season Workshops

These workshops will focus on advanced ball handling skills, shooting on the move, advanced footwork to create space, enhancing speed, quickness and jumping abilities through a dynamic workout and competitive group drills.

Winning Ways and Nike Basketball Camps coming to SWFLA!

 

Girls Nike Overnight Skills Camp June 14 to June 17, Sunday to Wednesday, at the University of Tampa. Stay on campus in air-conditioned dorms with all meals included. Coach Tom Jessee Head Coach University of Tampa and Coach Tom Kane President of Winning Ways SWFLA are camp directors. Sunday to Wednesday Skills Camp, Wednesday to Friday Nike Advanced Shooting Camp. Skills Camp $349 includes room and board, Advanced Shooting Camp $149 (when attending skills camp). I have been watching more high school and junior basketball than ever, and I am worried about what I see.  The canary in the United States' basketball coal mine has not yet died, but it is starting to teeter on its perch.  

No reasonable basketball person can refute the fact that the fundamental skills of American players are slipping, and so is the American game.  I believe a primary reason is an increased emphasis on coaching the game, and a decreased emphasis on teaching our kids how to play the game.

Pete Newell, the legendary coach and teacher, has often said that basketball is "over-coached and under-taught".  He is absolutely right, and that is finally catching up with us, as is the rest of the basketball world.
