I have been watching more high school and junior basketball than ever, and I am worried about what I see.  The canary in the United States' basketball coal mine has not yet died, but it is starting to teeter on its perch.  

No reasonable basketball person can refute the fact that the fundamental skills of American players are slipping, and so is the American game.  I believe a primary reason is an increased emphasis on coaching the game, and a decreased emphasis on teaching our kids how to play the game.

Pete Newell, the legendary coach and teacher, has often said that basketball is "over-coached and under-taught".  He is absolutely right, and that is finally catching up with us, as is the rest of the basketball world.

Winning Ways announces Fall Finish Girls Exposure Event

On October 4th and 5th at the University of Tampa, Winning Ways of SWFLA. and Michael T. White Inc. will host the Fall Finish Exposure Event. This event will be open to both team and individual players. The cost of the event is $99 for an individual player and $675 for a team entry. All coaches must be NCAA certified to coach in this event.

The 2nd Annual Fall Finish will reach its peak at the last certified weekend for the 2008 recruting season for non scholastic events to be held October 4-5, 2008 in Houston, TX, Louisville, KY,
Los Angeles, CA, and Tampa, FL.

The tournaments in Each Venue will include several outstanding elite travel clubs, high school teams, and Junior College Programs from across the country and give college coaches another opportunity to evaluate prospects for the respective class. The brackets will include age groups by clubs starting with 17U, 16U, 15U, 14U, HS ONLY, and JUCO ONLY

Each year, Michael T. White Inc. features the nation's top travel teams. In past years, prep superstars such as Courtney Paris, Erlana Larkins, Noelle Quinn and Tiffany Jackson have played in numerous sponsored events. Winning Ways of SWFLA is proud to be a partner in the the Tampa Fall Finish, bringing another outstanding venue for girls basketball to Southwest Florida.

The Fall Finish provide major college coaches with a unique opportunity to scout the nation's elite players while they are competing against each other. In addition, All Star Girls Report analyst Bret McCormick uses the event as a key gauge for ASGR's important national rankings.

 

TAMPA FALL FINISH WILL HAVE INDIVIDUAL CAMP ON OCTOBER 5TH, IN CONJUCTION WITH TEAM EVENT.
INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS CAN REGISTER ONLINE BELOW.

FAST FACTS :
Registration cost: are $675.00 per team with (4) four games guarantee.
Mandatory Coaches Check-In: before First Game, Saturday October 4th, 7:30am - 3:00pm.
Player Educational Sessions: October 4-5 after First Game 9:00am - 9:00pm.

GAME TIMES:
October 4th: Games start 8:00am - 8:50pm.
October 5th: Games start 8:00am - 8:50pm.

NOTE: JUCO Jamboree at each venue will be October 4th.

Winning Ways Elite Team travels to Atlanta to the Tournament of Champions - July 9 - July 12

In early April, Coach Kane and the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles traveled to North Carolina to play in the Deep South Classic. The team spent four days on the campuses of Duke, North Carolina and North Carolina State. The girls made it to the championship game of the bracket and represented Southwest Florida with hard work, determination and GREAT defense. Now the team heads off to Atlanta to take on some of the best 16u teams in the country at the Tournament of Champions. Please check out the pictures from our trip to Deep South Classic .
